Performance Enhancing Drugs For Scientists
Recently, Chris Good, of The Atlantic, has argued that scientists ought to be given performance enhancing drugs; not anabolic steroids, mind you, but rather, cognition enhancing drugs that are currently off-limits due to legality. Hallucinogens (LSD, for creativity), stimulants (Ritalin, for example, to help with focus), and other medications could conceivably be used by scientists and doctors to speed the rate at which they discover a cure for AIDS, Cancer, and a host of other deadly diseases.
When thousands of people dying each day from thus-far-incurable diseases, discovering a cure as quickly as possible would save the maximum amount of lives. Read the full article, and decide for yourself:

Study Casts Doubt on Weight Loss Supplements
Researchers Say 9 Dietary Supplements Are Not Effective for Cutting Weight

July 12, 2010 — Those expensive dietary supplements that promise dramatic weight loss by trapping fat, blocking carbs, or boosting metabolism work no better than placebo pills, a new study shows.
Researchers in Germany tested nine such products against placebo pills in one of the most extensive trials of weight loss supplements ever conducted.
They found that the supplements were no more effective than the dummy pills for promoting weight loss during the eight-week study.
The investigators say the findings show the importance of subjecting supplements marketed for weight loss to rigorous scientific research to determine if they have any benefit.

IFBB Eliminates Figure One-Piece Effective Immediately
The Figure One-Piece made its last stand at the New York Pro Figure. The following announcement was released today on IFBBpro.com.

Subject: IMMEDIATE ELIMINATION OF 1-PIECE SWIMSUIT ROUND IN PRO FIGURE
At the IFBB New York City Pro Figure on Friday July 9th, several members of the IFBB Professional League Pro Committee were on hand, including Chairman Jim Manion. A meeting was called that included a quorum to discuss the immediate elimination of the 1-Piece Swimsuit Round in the IFBB Pro Figure. This will take effect starting with the 2010 IFBB Pro Bodybuilding Weekly Championships on July 17th. This was originally proposed to take effect at the 2010 IFBB Houston Pro Figure as stated on Advisory Notice from Tuesday, June 15th. All IFBB Pro Figure competitions from this date forward will only consist of one (1) round, the 2-Piece Swimsuit. This includes the 2010 Figure Olympia.
Please note there is no figure at this weekend’s Tampa Pro show, so the first show it will be implemented will be the Europa Super Show in Hartford.
