    Kai Greene Signs With Weider
    by Scott Welch

On top of having a sweet contract with supplement company MUSCLE MEDS, 35 year old Kai Greene has left Muscular Development magazine to sign an exclusive publishing deal with Weider Publications/AMI. This is going to REALLY piss off Steve Blechman (owner of MD) because Kai has been the post boy for that magazine for years now. With MD stealing Jay Cutler from Weider just a few weeks back, I guess this is just a little payback!

“I’m excited and I feel many steps closer to the goals that I dream about,” Greene said. “The first bodybuilding magazine I ever read was Muscle and Fitness, but FLEX wasn’t long to follow. To become a Weider athlete and be a part of the Weider organization is like watching a little boy’s dream come true … Myself and my team are very thankful and happy with all of the success we’ve been able to experience thus far … We’re not totally fulfilled yet, though. We still understand we have a lot of work to do and are happy to do that work. I’m thankful for the opportunity to do it in this fashion, as a Weider athlete.” Greene said.

FDA Guidelines on the “Results Not Typical” Gotcha
    by Chip Cooper

“Success story” testimonials have long been a staple for advertisers with their website legal forms. “I lost 12 pounds in my first month, ” and “In 3 short months I was taking in over $5,000 per month on my website…” are typical examples.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) in its Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising (16 C.F.R., Part 255) effective in December, 2009 placed severe restrictions on the use of the “results not typical” website legal forms disclaimers with “success story” testimonials, and failure to comply could result in significant legal liability.

    Sylvester Stallone Pudding Lawsuit
    by Johnny Justice

Do any of you remember the supplement company Sylvester Stallone started a few years back? Yes, The Italian Stallion was in the supplement biz not too long ago! His line called “Instone” was supposed to be the next big thing and he hired some of the top supplement industry insiders like Vince Andrich, Ryan Hornbuckle and Rehan Jalali. He had a fat burner, MRP, testosterone booster, protein powder and a protein packed pudding! This stuff was damn tasty too, with 20 g of protein per serving and just 2 grams of carbs! Perfect for a small snack on the go. According to industry sources, the pudding was selling like crazy. This lawsuit is REALLY confusing but this is what seems to have went down:

Lawmakers urge FDA to Move Swiftly to Limit Salt in Foods
By Lyndsey Layton, Washington Post Staff Writer

Two members of Congress urged the Food and Drug Administration on Tuesday to move quickly to limit the amount of salt in processed foods, calling the matter a “public health crisis” that demanded a swift response from government.

“I understand they want to do in a phased kind of a deal, but I don’t want it to be too long,” said Sen. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa), chairman of the Health, Education, Labor and Pension Committee, who plans to hold hearings on the matter. “This is crying out for change that’s long overdue.”

Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.) agreed, saying in a conference call with Harkin and reporters: “I don’t want this to take 10 years. I don’t want this to go on and on and on. . . . This is a public health crisis.”

2010 IFBB & NPC Pittsburgh Bodybuilding, Fitness, Figure & Bikini Championships
    by Isaac Hinds

The 2010 IFBB & NPC Pittsburgh show will take place on May 1st. The line ups are stacked and it will be interesting to see who ends up in the top five for the bikini division. You have Nathalia Melo coming off her Orlando win and Sonia Gonzales who has two pro bikini wins under her suit. Throw in Missy Coles, Jaime Baird and Monique Minton and you have a tough top five to beat. I look for Dianna Dahlgren to move up and challenge for a top five spot. Tianna Ta will be making her pro debut and could be in the mix. There are a number of other women who are also very competitive.

The figure will be competitive as well. Heather Mae French, Cheryl Brown, Marcy Porter and Gennifer Strobo are all qualified for the Olympia. Look for an improved Jodie Minear and that could end up being your top five. We’ll have to wait and see how it plays out but it’s definitely going to be a great show.

Hidetada Yamagishi Wins Europa Show of Champions/Orlando Pro
    by Joe Pietaro

Right after the pre-judging was completed at the 2010 Arnold Classic, Hidetada Yamagishi was not satisfied. “I tried my best but I want to win this show so I [hoped] to be in the first call-out,” he said backstage. The six-year pro made the second call-out and eventually placed eighth in a very deep line-up.

But that all changed six weeks later when Yamagishi stood in the winner’s circle at the second annual Europa Show of Champions in Orlando, Florida. The native of Japan was looking much sharper than he did in Ohio and was rewarded by the judges. Marcus Haley and Evgeny “Eugene” Mishin – two bodybuilders that needed a strong show at this point in their careers – finished second and third, respectively.

USPLabs & GNC Team Up On Wounded Warrior Project

USPLabs (makers of the wildly popular Jack3D product) and GNC have teamed up to donate to the Wounded Warrior Project (WWP). What is the Wounded Warrior Project? Good question! This program provides rehabilitation programs for severely wounded soldiers. WWP representatives provide advice and help wounded veterans with their integration back into society.

    How The Donation Works

GNC is by far the most progressive supplement retailer when it comes to setting up these types of programs with vendors. For the rest of 2010, anytime you buy a USPLabs product at a GNC corporate store, a portion of the sale will go to the WWP.
