kiwiNew vitamin E form extracted from kiwifruit
    By Stephen Daniells

Italian scientists have identified a new member of the vitamin E family, extracted from kiwifruit (Actinidia deliciosa ‘Hayward’), according to results of a new study.

Writing in the journal Food Chemistry, researchers from the two Neapolitan universities report the identification and characterisation of a compound called delta-tocomonoenol, which is an analogue of tocopherol.

There are eight forms of vitamin E: four tocopherols (alpha, beta, gamma, delta) and four tocotrienols (alpha, beta, gamma, delta). Alpha-tocopherol is the main source found in supplements and in the European diet, while gamma-tocopherol is the most common form in the American diet.

zaboLegendary Bodybuilder Irvin “Zabo” Koszewski Passes Away at 84
    by Joe Pietaro

The world of bodybuilding lost one of it’s legendary figures with the passing of Irvin “Zabo” Koszewski on March 29 at the age of 84. Known for his exceptional abdominal development, Zabo bested the goal of every man in the world and had an impressive “8-pack.” The World War II veteran contracted malaria while serving in the far east and lost 50 pounds. After returning home, he built his body back up and within two years he placed fourth in the AAU Mr. New Jersey contest and won it the following year.

Throughout his career, Koszewski won the 1950 AAU Jr. and regular Mr. Middle Atlantic; 1953 AAU Mr. Los Angeles and Mr. Pacific Coast; 1954 AAU Mr. California and 1967 Mr. International. In his last competition, he finished fourth in the 1970 IFBB Mr. World.

Appearing in a number of movies and television series, Zabo was more than just muscle. He may have been called “Mr. Abs,” but Koszewski was ahead of his time and a testament to the sport in many more aspects than just his mid-section.
