For the first half of 2007, Toney Freeman was flying high. Two wins – at the Ironman Pro and the Sacramento Pro – and a third-place finish at the Arnold put Freeman in the driver’s seat to make a run at the top five, if not the top three, at the 07 Olympia. Unfortunately for Freeman, that’s where the wheels came off, as an illness he suffered the week before the contest all but erased his chances. When it was all said and done, Freeman dropped all the way to 13th. Now, a rejunivated Freeman has his sights set on redemption in 2008, starting with the defense of his Ironman Pro title on February 16.

Seems like the injury bug is biting hard these days. First Victor Martinez, now Marcus Haley, who suffered a torn quadriceps that will keep him on the sideline for most of the 2008 season. We spoke to The Comet today, and found out that Marcus has been recuperating for three weeks now after having surgery to repair the quad on December 29.
Apparently, Marcus was in Nebraska visiting in-laws for the holidays. Haley was training legs on Christmas Eve when the unfortunate injury occurred.

PLANO, Tex. — A black Hummer pulled into the Hooters parking lot as dusk fell. Arthur Dale Atwood, a professional bodybuilder with a 61-inch chest, opened the tailgate for a police informant to deliver more than 100 bottles of fake drugs made from vegetable oil. When Arthur Atwood was arrested, he wasn’t charged with a drug violation because of a continuing federal investigation.
For months, city detectives had been watching as Atwood, 34, amassed steroids, human growth hormone, Ecstasy and exotic thyroid stimulators. Last May, the police made their move. Outside the Hooters lot, officers pulled over the Hummer. But instead of filing drug charges, they turned Atwood over to federal prosecutors running a more ambitious investigation.
Three days later, federal agents began arresting seven other bodybuilders across the state. One of them, David C. Jacobs, 35, known to friends as Bulletproof, publicly boasted of having evidence to link players for the Dallas Cowboys and the Atlanta Falcons to steroids. No such evidence has been revealed, and those teams have strongly denied his statements.

Injury To Knee Forces Withdrawl!
Written by Dave Palumbo
Thursday, 17 January 2008
On Wednesday January 16th, while doing a set of warm-up lunges at his home gym in New Jersey, 2007 Arnold Classic Champ Victor Martinez fell off balance and felt something “give†in his left knee. The pain wasn’t intense but it forced him to discontinue his workout.Today, he went for an MRI at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City and it was determined that he’ll require surgery to repair the injury. Victor will have one of the top orthopedic surgeons in the country operating on him tomorrow morning; and, if all goes as planned, he should be home by Saturday afternoon.
As a result of the injury, Victor will be forced to withdraw from the 2008 Arnold Classic and, instead, will concentrate on the upcoming 2008 Mr. Olympia. Stay tuned for daily updates!
Now the Arnold gets real interesting. Who will be the new victor of the Arnold Classic?
I am sorry to say that our good friend Pat Moore passed away early last night. He was known as the “silver fox”. His wife, Jo Jo called last night about 12 o’clock, alone and very emotional, as we can all understand. She said that he had been in ICU and that his heart just stopped working. She said his doctor had only given him two years after the heart surgery, but Pat had made it nine years, so they were thankful for the extra time. I only saw Pat once in all the years without Jo Jo and that was because she was sick.
She did not know of any arrangement until Jeff (Pat’s son) gets there today from Atlanta. She thinks it might be Monday. I will e-mail again when I have the info. For the ones that would like to call or send a card, home number is 228-388-5758 address, 495 Popps Ferry #20, Biloxi, MS 39531
Pat Moore is the one who helped give me a start in bodybuilding 14 years ago. He was a great kind, gentle, and funny man. We will miss him. He judged NPC for over 17 years. He judged our NPC Steel World Bodybuilding, Fitness, and Figure Championships just last year. He was very dedicated to the sport as a former bodybuilder himself. He always wore his bodybuilder gold chain around his neck. Even in bad health you could see his thick chest.
